Pacific Quest Horticultural Therapy Director Travis Slagle was recently a guest speaker on the Progressive Radio Network “iEat Green with Bhavani” radio show discussing success stories from Pacific Quest outdoor therapy program.
During the interview, Travis provided examples of how working in a garden has helped the students referred to Pacific Quest to develop healthier ways of coping with anxiety and depression. Travis discussed the emphasis at Pacific Quest wilderness therapy program to place the client in a care-giving role. The conversation ranged from topics about recent research studies in horticultural therapy, child development, and Pacific Quest’s proprietary Sustainable GrowthTM treatment model that integrates naturopathic medicine, rites-of-passage, and best practices in clinical psychology and family therapy.
As the proclaimed “Garden Guru” at Pacific Quest, Travis Slagle has been working with “at-risk teens” in outdoor therapeutic programs for over a decade. Bhavani stated, “I first heard of Travis from a friend who sent their daughter to Pacific Quest. She kept referring to him as the Garden Guru, which is the endearing name he has been given by the kids that go there.” The positive testimonials from families that enroll their child at Pacific Quest continue to generate national attention.
