The categories that were considered in the index include emotional health, life evaluation, work environment, physical health, healthy behaviors, and basic access to necessities. The Aloha State ranked highest in emotional health and healthy behaviors, including exercise and a nutritious diet. Living in Hawaii offers a way of life that embodies simplicity, gratitude, and stewardship of the land; in essence this is the meaning of aloha and the well-being of the people on the island. These values translate into a program staff team that practices what they teach. Living in the #1 state for well-being is no surprise, and we are often reminded by the natural beauty that surrounds us that life is a gift to be shared.
